We kiss and hug wherever whenever we feel like. We love our walks under a serendipitous rain. We make fun of our dogsโ€™ facial expressions. We love exchanging energies with the Millennials of our lives- our kids and their besties who are like our own children. For the longest time, we have an ongoing unspoken contest as to who shoots the best sunset photos in our garden.

So between the two of us, during spring and end of the year, we have to remove hundreds of sunset shots from our shared 1 terrabyte memory bank. (Weโ€™ll stop doing this now!) We fight and we love and we feel grateful having found each other and we fight and we love and we feel grateful having found each other again.

Somewhere along this zarsuela, we learned how to balance our zest for life with healthy angst, especially when its cold or humid and the joints decided to rally against our vigor. Shit. We hate to be bundled in one basket, along with a particular age group. (Down with Ageism!) so we weave our own basket. And in it, we lay our own sweet fruits with renewed energy to create new possibilities. We choose excitement over fear. (At times, fear still lurks in the dark. What do we do? Well, we hold hands and trample on it and do what we want anyway.) If you want to argue this self-declaration, talk to my father-in-law Frans. He is turning 98 next week. Our old guy still drives his car around Roermond, lives alone, works in his garden and does household chores without help from anyone.

Later in life, Wiel and I look forward to reaching the trails where we swing our arms for the third wind. And if God thinks we deserve a gift like Papa Fransโ€™- perhaps a fourth wind. We have no right to complain. We have a handsome load of coupon bonuses in our hands and we are grateful.
