WHERE AND HOW DID WE CELEBRATE MY BIRTHDAY WHILE TRAVELING EUROPE THIS AUTUMN? Big time. An immersion experience of the traditional Viennese culture at the Wiener Wiesen Fest 2018, Kaiserwiese in the Prater.

Free admissions during the daytime. (In the evening, they had famous Austrian performers. But what do we know about them. Free admission is always good.)

What were not free were food and drinks and they were sooo enjoyable : Wiener Schnitzel. Apple Strudels. Brettljause (cold cuts and different flavours of sausages served on a wooden plate) Goulash. Beer. They provide the right accompaniment to the musical enjoyment of folk music and dances. All these in one grounds!

After eating and a few pints of beer inside a tent we picked for its fun-filled folk music, we got out of the noise and let our hair down in a pile of haystack and absorbed the goings-on around us.

It was a great atmosphere to people-watch. Locals are wearing their traditional costumes and were so proud of it.

We really picked a good time and place to celebrate my birthday while in Vienna. To think that we picked it at random!

Okay. I woke up in the morning of September 29 with Dutchie asking me, what do you want to do, where do you want to go.

And so I went to the Internet and looked for “What’s happening in Vienna today.” Boom. There. Thank God the city is Uber-able. We needed only an hour to prepare. So at 11:30 AM when the gates opened, we were there at the gate of the Wiener Wiesn-Fest, with the famous Giant Ferris Wheel as its backdrop.

Shhhh. Truth be told one of us wasn’t happy with the noise. Ngeshu.
